Waiting lists: money is not the problem

We can no longer blame poor NHS funding for long surgical waiting lists in Britain, according to a study by Martin and colleagues (p 188). More beds, operating theatres, and doctors are not associated with shorter waiting times, implying that there are other important influences. In addition, the authors found that only a minority of hospitals had waiting times longer than six months. Greater global investment alone will not solve the problem of long waiting lists.
