Confused GPs are afraid to diagnose heart failure

General practitioners in the United Kingdom have difficulties diagnosing and managing heart failure. Fuat and colleagues (p 196) conducted a focus group study to identify factors contributing to variations in medical practice and the reasons for GPs' difficulties. They found that the constantly changing protocols, including those in which previously dangerous drugs are now cornerstones, have made GPs nervous and confused. The investigators say that advances in science have outstripped the ability and capacity of NHS delivery systems, leaving GPs baffled.
