Consider stigma due to scars

Skin scars after trauma and operations affect over 100 million people in the developed world alone. In a clinical review, Bayat and colleagues (p 88) discuss the wide range of scar types, sites, symptoms, and severity. Abnormal scars can be disfiguring and disabling, so appropriate medical treatment also includes consideration of the stigma or distress experienced by the patient. Recent advances in biological bases of scar healing have opened up new possibilities for preventing scarring.
