Worldwide gastroschisis epidemic
The prevalence of gastroschisis
a congenital malformation of the
abdominal wallat birth has increased worldwide. Di Tanna and
colleagues (p 1389) found a substantial risefrom 0.29 to 1.66 per
10 000 population. The authors investigated the prevalence of
gastroschisis among 37 million births in registries from 22 countries
worldwide from 1974 to 1998.
