Vaginal tape surgery is effective

Surgery with tension-free vaginal tape is as effective as colposuspension for the primary treatment of stress incontinence. These findings are from a randomised trial by Ward and colleagues (p 67) in 344 women. Surgery with the tape was associated with more operative complications, whereas colposuspension is associated with more postoperative complications and longer recovery. Vaginal tape, the authors say, offers promise because of minimal access and rapid recovery times.
