Sleep attacks do exist as an effect of dopamine agents

Car crashes in patients with Parkinson's disease have been associated with sleep attacks caused by the dopamine agonists pramipexole and ropinirole. Homann and colleagues (p 1483) reviewed 123 patients with sleep events and found that sleep attacks do exist (as distinct from somnolence), associated with all dopamine drugs. Effective prevention and treatment strategies are lacking, and there are insufficient data to ban patients from driving.
