What to do at a crash scene

Prehospital care should be considered separately from the rest of trauma teaching and is emerging as a specialist career in many countries. Coats and Davies (p 1135) review the action doctors need to take at a crash scene according to their level of training. Doctors untrained in prehospital care should call for help and follow simple first aid principles. Those who have had training are additionally able to identity conditions that might cause deterioration and evaluate the mechanism of the injury. The authors say that all doctors ought to think about how they would cope with the victims of a road traffic incident, as they are likely to be in this situation.
