Problem based learning improves undergraduate outcomes

Reviews of undergraduate medical education support the use of problem based learning rather than traditional learning. Smits and colleagues (p 153) found favourable short and long term outcomes of problem based learning but its effectiveness in continuing medical education has not been reviewed. Limited evidence shows that problem based learning increases knowledge, performance, and patients' health in continuing medical education, and there is some evidence that doctors are more satisfied with it.
