South Asians are less confident about managing their asthma than white patients

Compared with white patients, south Asians have less confidence in controlling asthma, are unfamiliar with the concept of preventive medication, and have less confidence in their general practitioners. Griffiths et al (p 962) investigated beliefs and behaviour of south Asian and white adults admitted to hospital with asthma in east London. South Asians managed asthma exacerbations with family advocacy, without systematic changes in asthma prophylaxis, and without the use of systemic corticosteroids.
