Virtual reality technologies soon to be introduced into surgery

Robot assisted and tele-robotic surgery are soon to be introduced into selected surgical disciplines. Other anticipated surgical developments described by McCloy and Stone (p 912) include computerised simulations for training purposes and the use of virtual reality simulators to interact with medical images for surgical planning and training, to assess surgeons' fitness to practise, and to guide micro-robots undertaking minimally invasive interventions.
