No single type of general practice has a monopoly on high quality of
care. Campbell and colleagues (p 784) studied a random sample of 60 English practices and found that diabetes care was better in larger
practices, but access to care was better in smaller practices. Quality
scores for management of asthma, diabetes, and angina were
substantially higher in practices with longer booking intervals. Levels
of preventive care were lower in practices located in socioeconomically
deprived areas. Practices with a better practice team climate had
higher scores for diabetes care, overall satisfaction, continuity
of care, and access to care.
