Lower osmolarity oral rehydration solution is better than WHO solution

Reduced osmolarity oral rehydration solution decreases the need for intravenous infusion compared with standard WHO solution among children with diarrhoea (Hahn et al, p 81). This systematic review also showed that children receiving the reduced osmolarity solution had lower stool output and less vomiting. The authors suggest that the results support a change in WHO policy, although they are cautious about use of the reduced osmolarity formulation in patients with cholera.
