A new method can validate primary care electronic notes

A triangulation approach using a combination of statistical tests can measure the validity of the READ codes in electronic notes used in primary care. Hassey et al (p 1401) surveyed the electronic notes in one general practice in Yorkshire and found that their new method was valid across the main functional areas of the database and for 15 clinical diagnoses. This method could be used by other practices to quantify the validity of their electronic record systems.
