Health professionals are unsure about second measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination

Many health professionals have reservations about the second dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. Petrovic et al (p 82), in a survey in a health authority in north Wales, found much variation in knowledge and practice regarding the vaccine, which may be contributing to these reservations. National resources such as the "green book" and the Health Education Authority's factsheets are designed to help answer queries about vaccination; however, some health professionals are either unaware of these resources or do not use them. In view of the falling uptake of the vaccine, local educational initiatives are needed.
