Developing countries should lead own research

Much of the health research conducted in developing countries is carried out in units where the research agenda is defined by large international agencies and the departments run by expatriate research workers. This semi-colonial model should be abandoned Costello and Zumla (p 827) argue and be replaced by new partnerships where national researchers take the lead.
