Income inequality and mortality are not associated in Canada

In the United States inequality in income and mortality are strongly related, both at state and metropolitan area level. On 898 Ross et al compare this relation in Canada and the United States. The comparison is compelling, given the major differences in the sociopolitical contexts of the two countries. Canadian provinces and metropolitan areas generally had lower inequality and lower mortality than their US counterparts. Within Canada, however, income inequality and mortality were not associated at either the provincial or metropolitan area levels.
