Faecal antigen test for H pylori may be useful alternative to 13C urea breath test

The 13C urea breath test is the best non-invasive test for Helicobacter pylori infection. Braden et al compared it with a new faecal test for antigen to H pylori to diagnose infection in 90 patients and to monitor eradication therapy in a further 115 (p 148). The overall sensitivity of the antigen faecal test was 91.9% and specificity 95.4%. The authors conclude that it is a cheap easy alternative to breath testing.
