Europe must manage the health effects of inevitable climate change

Climate changes can affect health. On p 1682 Kovats et al discuss the likely effects of climate change in Europe. They point out that the average annual temperature in Europe has increased by about 0.8°C and this rise will continue despite measures to curb greenhouse gas emissions. Given this fact, the authors recommend improving disease surveillance systems and introducing vaccination programmes for vector borne diseases that are likely to spread, such as tick borne encephalitis.
