Black people are twice as likely as white people to suffer stroke

In the first European prospective community stroke register to compare incidence rates of stroke in black and white people, Stewart et al (p 967) found a twofold excess of first ever stroke in black people. The increased incidence in black people could not be attributed to social class confounding. The authors conclude that there are important ethnic differences in genetic, physiological, and behavioural risk factors which require further elucidation.
