Planning and resources are needed to help refugees

Nearly a quarter of a million refugees live in Britain, and the numbers are likely to remain high. All are entitled to NHS treatment and many have major health needs, but as Jones and Gill describe on p 1444, there are substantial inequalities in the care they receive. Refugees often experience difficulties registering with a GP, and language barriers may worsen the situation when they seek help. They conclude that increased spending on services for refugees, including translators, is needed. However, this will require political courage in a climate where many groups need more resources.
