Older women do come for breast cancer screening

The British breast screening programme has not invited women over 64 because older women are not thought likely to take up such screening. On p 388 Rubin et al report the first of three pilot sudies to assess uptake and detection rates among women aged 65-69. Uptake was 76% among women aged 65-67 and 73% for those aged 68 or 69, compared with 80% for those under 65; detection rates were 8/1000, 17.4/1000, and 7.1/1000 respectively. The authors conclude that women invited for screening at younger ages will continue to come after 65.
