Parents involved in research welcome hearing the results

Some patients' groups have called for the feedback of results to the participants of studies, but few participants have been asked their views. Snowdon et al (p 21) studied the parents of babies who had been included in a randomised controlled trial. Twenty four parents who had asked to see the results and whose babies had survived were interviewed. Although some of the information was both factually and emotionally exacting the parents still thought it important they were told. Parents valued having their contribution acknowledged and also recognised the need for sensitivity in feeding back results, especially to vulnerable groups such as bereaved parents.
