Several errors occurred in this paper by Douglas G Tincello and David H Richmond (7 February, pp 435-7). Three incorrect figureswere cited from Etherington and James in the table: the sensitivityshould have been 81.8%, and the positive and negative predictivevalues for all four tests in combination should have been 10.5%and 99.3% respectively. The third key message should have read"Commercially available reagent strips for testing urine do notperform to a sufficient standard."
