Children of single parents have more accidents, more home visits, and less immunisation

Rapidly increasing numbers of children are brought up in single parent households. Fleming and Charlton (p 1572) compared reported morbidity and health-care patterns in children in households with one adult with those of other children. Children in households with one adult consulted more often and received more home visits. In particular they reported with more accidents and consulted less often for immunisation. These children need to be targeted by primary healthcare workers to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure adequate immunisation.
