Avoidance of cows' milk is effective in infantile colic

The cause of infantile colic is far from clear, but several biological and social factors have been proposed $---$ for example,allergy to cows' milk. Uncertainty about the cause has lead tomany different treatments. On p 1563 Lucassen et al report theresults of a systematic review of controlled trials on the effectivenessof treatments. Many studies were not supported by clear evidenceof effectiveness, but substitution of cows' milk by hypoallergenicformula milks and so called sensitive differential respondingby carers were effective.
