Doctor is charged with signing cremation certificates without proper investigations

A consultant physician is facing criminal charges of signing cremation certificates without viewing the bodies, examining them, or speaking to the doctors who looked after the patients in their final illness.
Martin Sandler, a former clinical director at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, is charged with offences under the Cremation Act 1902.
The indictment charges him with five counts of signing false certificates in individual cases and a sixth count of signing 111 false certificates between 31 December 2005 and 1 June 2008.
