A journal prints a lengthy correction to an article at the centre of a libel case against an investigator who has been left off authorship, does not apologise, considers the matter closed, and will not answer questions from the BMJ.1 Does this enhance its reputation for independence and transparent scientific debate among other journals and academics in the field? Or might it impact the impact factor?
