The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital opened this week to become the United Kingdom’s largest hospital for children on a single site. The development, which took five years to complete, is part of a £500m ({euro}590m; $820m) private finance initiative scheme commissioned by Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It will take over the work of five hospitals in the area, delivering care to an expected 35 000 patients a year. The hospital specialises in renal transplants, metabolic care, and complex spinal care and will offer transfer from hospitals throughout the UK.
