BBC to pay Taranissi over libel action: The BBC has settled a libel action brought by the infertility specialist Mohamed Taranissi over a Panorama programme in 2007, which he claimed made defamatory allegations about his techniques. The settlement on undisclosed terms follows a High Court ruling last October that ordered the BBC to pay Mr Taranissi an estimated £500 000 ({euro}578 000; $803 000) in costs after it withdrew part of its defence.

Call for greater transparency about cost to NHS of management consultants: The cross party health select committee has called for the UK government to gather central information on the cost to the NHS of private management consultants. Last year the English NHS spent an estimated £350m ({euro}400m; $560m) on independent management consultants. A sample of contracts with external consultants should also be subject to external review to monitor value for money, said the committee.
