Germany predicts fall in cases of bowel cancer: A big fall in numbers of cases of colorectal cancer in Germany is forecast as a result of the 2002 introduction of colonoscopy as a primary screening tool. Estimates based on nearly two million screening colonoscopies are that numbers of cases will drop by more than 15 000 from 2003 to 2010 (European Journal of Cancer, doi:10.1016/j.ejca.2009.02.017).
More than three quarters of a million people are trafficked each year: The United Nations’ special rapporteur on trafficking, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, estimates that 800 000 people are traded across borders each year, making human trafficking the fastest growing criminal activity in the world today. She says that punishing the perpetrators and raising public awareness are the key to ending this "modern day slavery."
