Death rates at Harefield to be reviewed: The Healthcare Commission is working with the national specialised commissioning team to review heart transplant services at Harefield Hospital, Middlesex, after a rise in mortality after heart transplants at the hospital. The review will determine whether the care patients received was appropriate and report back in one month. The commission will decide what further action is necessary.

Dutch nurse to be retried: The Netherlands’ Supreme Court has agreed to reopen the case against Dutch nurse Lucia de Berk, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003 for murdering seven patients. The decision follows an investigation ordered by the solicitor general that casts doubt on the proof of her conviction. She will be retried at a court in Arnhem.
