Edinburgh GPs have a successful scheme to prevent burnout: peer support groups with facilitators funded by Edinburghs Community Health Project.1 2
Three groups meet monthly, with a fourth just starting. I am a member of the first group established over five years ago. It has always numbered 10 and consists of most of the original members.
We exchange tips, offload, network, reflect—on patients, partners, conflicts, upsetting events, new guidelines. No agenda is set: we bring any subject we want to talk about to the two hour meeting, covering three to eight subjects each time.
