Chinese health ministry takes over drug regulation: Chinas Ministry of Health will take control of the State Food and Drug Administration and become directly responsible for monitoring the countrys food and drug safety. The administrations former chief, Zheng Xiaoyu, was executed in July last year for accepting bribes from companies wanting to push through products without the required safety checks.
A quarter of US teenage girls have sexually transmitted infection: A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that 26% of girls aged 14-19 were infected with human papillomavirus (HPV), chlamydia, herpes simplex, or trichomoniasis. The figure in black American girls was 48%. The CDC recommends HPV vaccination for women and girls aged 11-26 years and chlamydia screening for all sexually active women under 25.
