It seems odd that the BMA is now crying foul with regard to the proposed changes in the General Medical Services (GMS) contract.1 It was the BMA that recommended voting for the new contract in 2004, which included the option for unilateral change of terms and conditions, no agreement about the scope or purpose of the quality and outcomes framework, and no safeguards to make the contract inflation proof.
The contract was accepted by 80% of general practitioners, and it seems the BMA is reneging on the agreement of 2004. Surely memories cannot be this short?
