Foundation trusts argue they really do make a difference

Foundation trusts have joined forces to publish details of their achievements in the first 18 months of their existence. And the overview they give is a positive picture of innovation and achievement.

The report, published under the auspices of the NHS Confederation, highlights the fact that foundation trusts have had greater freedom to raise money than their counterparts, the non-foundation trusts, and they have made good use of that freedom. Compiled by the 32 foundation trusts, which make up the Foundation Trust Network, the report claims to show "how foundation trusts have improved health care for the communities they serve."

Among the examples of improved services the report cites:

  • Making land neighbouring Basildon Hospital available to the hospital, enabling it to build a 320 space car park, which local people wanted
