I found the articles by Jadad and Shepperd et al on using the
internet to provide patients with information helpful.

The internet is beginning to transform health care, but there is fear
that clinicians may remain ill prepared unless action is taken now.
Jadad was unable to identify my article on this subject.3
I have developed the concept of cyberclinics in rheumatology and
osteoporosis with active participation of patients and am now able to
offer consultation and advice on the net.

The internet can provide vast amounts of information, but the material
is variable in quality. I have created one of the first departmental websites in rheumatology and osteoporosis
(www.smuht.man.ac.uk/rheumat/), which features information that I have
written personally or selected (after studying it online) and consider
reliable so that patients can access this information with confidence.
