Geoff Watts works as a freelance science and medical writer and broadcaster. In this capacity he has been paid, and continues to be paid, by a variety of organisations in the public and private sector. These include: NHS bodies such as NICE; academic bodies such as the Academy of Medical Sciences; broadcasting and other production companies such as the BBC; and various print publishers including the BMJ group and the Lancet group. He is a member of committees set up by various government and academic organisations including the Department of Health and the Academy of Medical Sciences. From time to time he chairs or addresses educational or other types of non-promotional meeting organised by commercial organisations operating in the medical field, and also meetings organised by NGOs and medical charities. He is a member of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics. None of these commitments is on-going and none of them pay him a retainer of any kind. He has no stock options or shares in any pharmaceutical or healthcare companies, but pays into a personal pension which may invest in these types of company.
