Matthew Kiernan - Australia

Matthew Kiernan

Matthew Kiernan is professor of neurology at the University of New South Wales, Australia, and directs the multidisciplinary motor neurone disease clinical service at Prince of Wales Hospital. He was involved in the development and launched the Australian motor neurone disease registry. In addition to this clinical interest in MND, his research focus explores the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disease, leading to the recent initiation of an investigator driven clinical trial of a novel neuroprotective therapy, supported by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. He is chair of the scientific committee of the Australian Brain Foundation, allocating funds to research and medical education for the treatment and prevention of neurological disorders, chair of the scientific and programme committee of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists, and editor of the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
