NHS sets up unit to reduce carbon emissions in health service

    The government is spending £0.5m (€0.7m; $1m) on a new body that will monitor and encourage energy efficient practices throughout the NHS in England.

    The NHS Sustainable Development Unit, which is to be based in the East of England NHS region, is intended to set out evaluation systems and identify good practice for energy use in all aspects of health service activity.

    David Pencheon, who is setting up the unit, said that its role will be to build on efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the health service.
