    EDITOR,—We agree that Eric S Kilpatrick and colleagues' study suggests the need for greater standardisation of methods used for estimating glycated haemoglobin concentrations.1 The estimation of glycated haemoglobin in patients with variant haemoglobins also urgently needs standardisation.
