    EDITOR, - I am a member of a regional higher awards committee. Though I approve of the merit awards system, I have several reservations. I agree with Jeffrey Tobias that all consultants are not equal and that some system is required to acknowledge this.1 I too reject the notion of seniority payments and believe that the system is, in its way, performance related.
